Change: The Elephant in the Room

For decades the legal industry has been chewing on issues like diversity, women in the profession/glass ceiling, alternative billing arrangements, adoption of sales process and CRM.
There are countless associations, publications, in-person events, webinars and consultants thriving on these topics with growing audience, memberships and revenue. These issues cross-pollinate throughout the disparate groups: visit the annual meeting schedule for an individual Legal Marketing Association Chapter and you’ll find events focused on diversity and business development. Likewise, MCCA Diversity in the Bar Magazine runs columns on business development and glass ceiling issues.
Isn’t the silver bullet to successful outcomes in any of these areas implementing change in a culture that is generally resistant?
Perhaps we should create a Union of Change Agents in Professional Services. The Union will play on the strengths of disparate associations to create law firm cultures that are open and eager for change.
